The best alternative Prime Day deals: What non-Amazon brands are offering

Published

on

Have you heard? It’s Prime Day!

Related: the best Amazon Prime Day deals of 2022.

Prime Day runs from July 12 to July 13 and is Amazon’s annual deals event. It’s a shopping frenzy for Prime members (and only Prime members), but Amazon is currently offering a free 30-day trial to make signing up to get the deals as easy for you, the deal hunter, as possible. After those 30 days, Prime membership will cost you $14.99 per month, or $139 annually — $40 off from a monthly subscription — and includes free and fast delivery plus other perks, including access to Prime Video.

However, you may have found yourself reading this article because you are not a Prime member, and maybe you don’t wish to become one. Perhaps you don’t like Amazon, or you’ve even boycotted the e-commerce juggernaut. Whatever your reasons, Amazon’s Prime Day has had a ripple effect on the rest of the e-commerce world, with one notable result being many, many competitor websites holding huge rival sales as well.

See what discounts other top stores are offering right now below.

Best Buy is holding a “Black Friday in July” event from July 10 to 13 and offers deals for all with steep discounts across most major categories like audio, computers, and kitchen. Other noteworthy deals include gift card offers on services and stores like Netflix and Chipotle.

It wouldn’t be an Amazon event without Walmart attempting to steal some of the retail spotlight. From July 11 to 14, Walmart is responding to Prime Day with some serious rollbacks on brands like Apple, Samsung, Ninja, LOL Surprise, HP, Shark, and many more.

Last month, Target announced they were discounting inventory following disappointing earnings in their first quarter, partially in an attempt to be more nimble. Customers can continue to benefit with additional savings during Target’s Deal Days, running from July 11 to 13. The sale includes discounts across the site on items for the home, electronics, gift cards, Apple products, and more.

Chewy, the online pet store with some of the most notoriously thoughtful customer service, is also having a giant sale this week. Starting July 12, stock up on pet essentials during Chewy’s “Deals for All the Fees” event.

Nordstrom cardholders can enjoy early access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale now through July 14. Beginning July 15, the general public can also shop this fantastic sale event. A great time to buy some summer gear to flaunt for the rest of the season and stock up for fall and back to school as well.

No membership or special store card is required for these luxury fashion deals from Saks. Saks Fifth Avenue offers steep discounts currently up to 70% off for their Designer Sale, but from July 12 to 14, code ACTFAST20 will lower the price an additional 20% off those Designer Sale picks.

Beginning July 11, Samsung is holding a Black Friday in July sale event. With savings on home tech and appliances, TVs, computers and more. If you have been considering buying one of Samsung’s popular Frame TVs, now is the time with up to $1,500 off the item.

It’s the Summer of Savings over at Wayfair’s website. With substantial discounts across all types of indoor and outdoor furniture, rugs, appliances, art and more. Whatever you need for your home or garden, Wayfair probably has something on sale for your consideration.

Therabody, the maker of the popular personal massager Theragun, is offering up to $100 Theraguns from July 11-13, as well as discounts on their other health and wellness products.

From July 11-13, HP is holding a Black Friday in July sale. With savings on computers, printers, headphones and more now is a great time to stock up on back to school equipment from this reliable brand.

Actress Anne Heche Suffers Severe Burns After Crashing Car Into Los Angeles Home

Published

on

Actress Anne Heche, known for her roles in such films as Donnie Brasco, Volcano and I Know What You Did Last Summer, was involved in a fiery car crash in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles on Friday.

According to TMZ, Heche was driving a blue Mini Cooper and had first crashed into the garage of an apartment complex. Residents of the apartment complex tried to get her out of the vehicle but she backed up and sped off.

Footage of Heche speeding down the streets of her neighborhood had been obtained by TMZ as well as her initial encounter at the apartment complex.

In the first clip, you can hear her car crash towards the end. It has been reported that the actress crashed into someone’s home, causing her vehicle and the house to erupt into flames. Heche suffered severe burns and was resisting being taken away in a stretcher. You can also view footage of this via the TMZ article.

It has not been confirmed whether alcohol has been involved in the incident since her condition prevents doctors from performing any tests to determine if she was driving under the influence. She is currently intubated in the hospital but expected to live.

These are the vulgar license-plate requests the DMV has rejected

Published

Stay CL4SSY, New York!

The state Department of Motor Vehicles nixed 3,752 requests for vanity license plates in the last three years because it deemed them too raunchy, radical or simply ridiculous.

New York’s personalized plates go for $60 initially, and then $31.25 annually for renewal. You can get any plate as long as no one else has it and it’s not offensive.

Odds are a request for a plate that marks a wedding anniversary or shows your allegiance to a team — like METS86 — will pass muster with the DMV gatekeepers.

Vulgarity won’t get you to first base.

So plates with the phrase LFGM — the acronym for Pete Alonso’s “Let’s F–king Go Mets” rallying cry — did not make the cut.

And you won’t see anyone driving around with the custom plates MILFDAD, AS5M4N and WLHUNG.

The DMV also put NICEBUNS, FATFANNY, GOTAPOOP and BENDOVER in the rear-view mirror.

One player unsuccessfully tried to score the plate YESDADDY, to no avail.

The DMV also shot down such dark requests as DEADGIRL, GENOC1DE, S8TAN, DETONATE and MURDERM3.

Getting political is a dead end too — FJOEBIDN, FDTRUMP and CNNLIES were nixed.

LUDEDUDE, NARCO, GOT METH and BLUNT also went up in smoke.

Staten Island attorney Bill Dertinger said his blue 1995 Jaguar SJS was tagged with ESQLTD after his company and his 2014 Porsche had the plate GHOSTGTS because the sleek sportscar was white.

“The plates can make you stand out — which can be a curse or a blessing,” the 54-year-old Dertinger said. “Make sure you don’t cut anybody off.”

There must be a New York Jets fan playing referee at the DMV because a request for the seemingly innocent plate GASE was sidelined. Ex-Jets head coach Adam Gase had an offensive 9-23 win-loss record during his forgettable two-year tenure.

The DMV would not reveal who gives the final yea or nay.

“The DMV reviews all custom license plate requests and works hard to ensure that any combinations that may be considered objectionable are rejected,” said agency spokesman Tim O’Brien.

He said guidelines on what plate combinations are restricted can be found on the DMV website: https://dmv.ny.gov/learn-about-personalized-plates. Approximately 50,000 personalized and custom plates are sold per year, O’Brien said.
